Delegation

The Levels of Delegation

The delegation has several levels. In terms of devolution, we can divide delegation into two groups. The first group, the delegation of powers, is mainly applied for new council/parliament members. We can use it as a means of engaging new members. We can use the second group, the delegation of decisions, with long-serving council/parliament members as a means of reinvigorating their often-stereotypical work.

Information Delegation

Level 1.

Task delegation

Look thoroughly at the problem at hand. Gather all the necessary information and facts. Then I shall decide how to proceed.

Reason

This level saves the time and work needed for resource searching. This way, the council/parliament member can also gain a comprehensive understanding of the problems.

Level 2.

Task delegation

Summarize all the available options for further action and their advantages and disadvantages. After analysing them, I will decide which one shall we choose.

Reason

Unlike the first level, this one leads the council/parliament member to be creative in their way. The people in charge can then strive to find a creative path that isn’t influenced by experience or expertise.

Level 3.

Task delegation

Recommend me what we should do. Submit your proposal for approval.

Reason

If we accept the submitted variant, it will increase the confidence of the one who suggested it. In case of a disagreement, we should always explain why we choose another option.

Level 4.

Task delegation

Let me know what you intend to do. Wait for my approval to proceed further.

Reason

There is a possibility that a creative idea must be implemented per internal rules better known to the person delegating.

Delegation of Decisions

Level 5.

Task delegation

Let me know what you intend to do. If I don’t object, you can proceed on your own.

Reason

How the member achieves the goal is not significant. The result must lead to the fulfilment of decided objectives by the delegator. That’s all that matters.

Level 6.

Task delegation

Act at your discretion. Keep me informed of what you have done and what results have you achieved.

Reason

At this level, the chosen method for achieving the goal of the delegated team member is irrelevant. The only important thing is the result itself. The delegator trusts the chosen member fully. He has faith in their ability to use a method fully compatible with the corporate culture and achieve results in harmony with the organization’s objectives.

Level 7.

Task delegation

Act at your discretion. Inform me only if you encounter any problems. I require no further communication from you.

Reason

This level is applied mainly in areas that are not yet standardized or in cases where the organization is considering revitalization. This level of delegation is linked with coaching.
