Ability to analyze the situation and needs of young people at the local level

Young people – important inhabitants of a village/town

Goal

  • You shall realize that you, as a young person, are an important part of your local community. Its future depends on you.
  • You will be able to characterize youth as an important social group

Activities

In this lesson, you will learn and check the availability of information about young people in your city or municipality. Take a survey in the network of questions listed in the table below and check the appropriate boxes. In your browser, search for your city or town’s website to find a place dedicated to young people. If you do not find such a place, you can look for this information on the municipal website or call the municipal/city office. Remember that you have the right to receive this information as part of your access to public information. You can also find the information on other youth websites such as youth community centres, youth non-profit organizations, the Municipal Youth Council, etc. Sometimes information on the internet is hidden. You will need the skills to search for information. Here are some tips:

  • Try typing terms like youth, name of your city, data, etc., into Google.
  • If you want to refine your search, you can open an advanced search bar.
  • If you are looking for documents, use the words doc or pdf.
  • If you are looking for images, use the words png or jpg.
  • If you are looking for information on any social network, type @ before the searched word.
  • To search for a specific hashtag, type # before the word.
  • To exclude a word, use the “-” symbol.
  • To make your search more accurate, use quotation marks, e. g., “youth in Bern”.
