There are three main areas we pay attention to in team building. The areas include people, processes, and results. The alignment of these three areas is essential for the successful functioning of a team.
1) Result. The reason for which the team was formed. It can be providing or delivering a product, service, proposal, project, etc.
2) People. It is necessary to consider the interests of the individuals involved (team members). These interests typically range from the security of a steady income to the possibility of self-fulfilment (see Maslow’s pyramid).
3) Process. The last area focused on considering the quality of communication, coexistence, and cooperation of each team member.
In case of teamwork inefficiency, we may ask: “Are we taking good care of the people? Are we setting the roles correctly and taking care of the relationships between team members and authority? Are we mindful of the team processes? Are we setting rules and forming the concept of we as a whole? Do we remember the past and learn from our mistakes? Are we mindful of the possible outcomes? Do we set feasible goals and have enough trust and respect for the individual work of team members?”
